BUA ORIGINAL CHARACTER GUIDELINES

General Guidelines

In order to be accepted into Beyond UA, it is important to follow the mandatory guidelines below. Please read them thoroughly before submitting your application.

  1. You can only submit characters that are your own.
We will not accept submissions that copy from the existing BNHA canon or from original characters owned by someone else.

  2. Avoid submitting overpowered/god-like quirks and dual quirks (examples: One for All; Half-Cold Half-Hot; etc).
Overpowered quirks can be frustrating for other roleplayers on the server, especially since we are a collaborative writing and roleplaying server first and foremost! Dual quirks are very rare and can be god-like, so to keep it fair for everyone on the server, they will not be accepted.

  3. Each quirk must be balanced.
Keep in mind what role you're applying for when submitting an OC and their quirk to our application. For example, student OCs have a lot of potential and room for growth, but their quirks may not necessarily be as powerful as those of UA Faculty or Pro Heroes or Villains!

Submitted quirks should be well-described and have both limitations (i.e.: "can only summon [x] amount of ice" or "can only fly for [x] minutes") and drawbacks (i.e.: "summoning more than [x] amount of ice causes frostbite" or "flying too long can lead to muscle exhaustion and feather loss").

Quirks lacking in either of the two requirements will be declined.

  4. Quirks should not put the user or the people around them in danger.
Because of our guidelines regarding the type and amount of violence allowed on the server, quirks should not put the user or the people around them in danger of critical/fatal injuries or near-death through their effects or drawbacks. Unfortunately, this means that quirks with increased potential for dangerous drawbacks and effects, such as blood or venom/toxin manipulation quirks will be evaluated more strictly and can be rejected outright if they are deemed too dangerous for the server.

  5. Characters cannot be related to or have any sort of relationship to existing canon characters.
The server's setting takes place in the year 2XXX, well into the future after the events of the Boku No Hero Academia canon. Brief mentions of past heroes or events are allowed, but since the series is ongoing, we recommend keeping them as vague as possible.

  6. Pre-existing relationships are only allowed in certain cases.
A Student OC cannot have an existing familial or otherwise significant relationship (i.e. parent/guardian, mentorship, etc.) to a Responsibility Role character. Student OCs can be related to each other or have pre-existing relationships. Responsibility Role characters may be related to each other or have pre-existing relationships with other Responsibility Role characters. This is to prevent favoritism.

  7. Having a visual reference is encouraged but not required.
Dollmakers such as Picrew are accepted as visual references. If the image(s) is not something you made, remember to obtain permission to do so and to source/link the artist!

  8. Characters that portray bigoted caricatures/stereotypes or hate speech are prohibited.
This includes, but is not limited to, designs, descriptions, and costumes. We strive to be a safe and welcoming server and will not tolerate such depictions.

  9. You may only submit one character per role in one application period.
This just means that, for example, you can’t submit two Main Student or two Pro Heroes OCs at once for their respective applications. There will be plenty of opportunities to have more than one character later on!

Student Guidelines

Main Student Guidelines

  1. Main Students must belong to either of the U.A. departments for Heroics or Support.
They will be assigned to either a Heroics classroom or a Support classroom respectively.

  2. Main Students may be either First Year or Second Year.
Please note that we have limited slots for both available years. For instance, should slots run out for First Year students, we will offer you the option of having your Main Student attend Second Year instead.

Teacherless Student Guidelines

  1. Teacherless Student characters do not participate in Homeroom Class roleplays as Main Students do.
However, in-lore, they will have their own homeroom, teacher, and participate in school activities just like any other student.

  2. Teacherless Students can be from any department of U.A.
This includes Heroics, Support, Business, or General Education.

  3. You may have only one Student OC actively participating in class roleplay at a given time.
You can switch out your Teacherless Student with your Main Student every six months, provided that the Teacherless Student is from Heroics or Support and is a 1st or 2nd year.

Unfortunately, we do not offer General Education or Business homeroom classes. However, General Education students may transfer to Heroics, given some justifiable in-character reason.

  4. Teacherless Students can be first, second, or third years.
Students that are not within the year of Main Students cannot transfer to a Homeroom Class, nor can they participate in the Main Student-focused events (i.e. Sports Festival).

In the case Main Students graduate to second year from their current first year, third year students will graduate and leave U.A. Please take this into account when deciding to apply a 2nd or 3rd-year student.

  5. You may actively participate with only one student per Event thread.
This applies to roleplayers who have both a Main Student and a Teacherless Student. These activities include, but are not limited to, Mundane Classes, Events, and Competitions.

Responsibility Guidelines

In addition to the Student Roles, Beyond UA offers opportunities for adult characters in the form of Responsibility Roles. These roles have a time commitment and require the roleplayer to take up responsibility out-of-character. You must be able to collaborate with a wide variety of people and adhere to roleplay deadlines.

Responsibility Role application periods are only open within the server itself in order for us to best gauge activity levels but can be open to the public on occasion. For in-server applications, the results of the Mod Team's evaluation will be sent prior to the official announcement. Afterwards, one may request a full summarized critique of the application from any Moderator.

Staff Guidelines

  1. Staff roleplayers are expected to be active and activity is taken into consideration in the application process.
Staff Roles are expected to adhere to given deadlines and to ensure your class or waitlist appointments do not fall behind the server schedule.

  2. The character submitted must have in-character justification for the faculty position.
Applications must be able to sufficiently argue their case. In BUA canon, U.A. doesn’t require teaching credentials, but the character must maintain a level of professionalism and be responsible enough to oversee students.

World Guidelines

  1. World roleplayers are expected to be active, and activity is taken into consideration in the application process.
World Roles are expected to adhere to the given deadlines and to ensure your internships or events do not fall behind the server schedule.

  2. Casual roleplay is limited for World Roles.
They cannot visit U.A. campus without being in the company of Staff, bar any special circumstances. While off-campus, they must be off-duty or hiding their identity, essentially acting as a “normal person”. Their activity is centered around Events.

  3. Villains and Vigilantes may act as antagonists in the server-wide story, but keep in mind that our server is PG-13.
We will not accept characters that go against our Server Rules and Content Guidelines (ie. no hate speech, slurs, sexual conduct, excessive violence, etc.).

Although Villains and Vigilantes can be potentially antagonistic towards other characters, our rules regarding out-of-character consent apply. Please remember this when interacting with others as either of these roles.
