Beyond UA Rules
The main purpose of this server is simple— to have fun! There are rules that come with it in order to make sure everyone is having a good time. Please be considerate of others’ backgrounds and feelings, and keep common sense with you. Giving the rules a read is mandatory.

The moderator team reserves the right to add or edit these rules at any given time, effective immediately after notifying the server of the changes made.

*These rules are copy/pasted directly from the discord server. Any omitted information here can be found after acceptance (and is only relevant then, anyways).
Content Guidelines

BeyondUA is a PG-13 only server! Note that Discord and many of our server members are based in the US, so legally, we must abide by the US’s definition of PG-13, age laws and restrictions. We strive to be family-friendly and ensure that the server environment is safe for everyone, so there’s a few things to keep in mind as you participate on the server!

Content Warnings and Spoiler Bars
In general, should you need to discuss sensitive topics on the server, please use spoiler bars with the appropriate content warnings to inform other server members so they can stay safe. Below is an example of how things should be tagged:
CW: friendly greeting ||Hello! This is spoiler’d content!||

CW: friendly greeting ||Hello! This is spoiler’d content!||

Topics that Need Content Warnings
The topics below, in-depth, are not appropriate on the server or in posted OC writings and will result in an automatic strike. There are real-life individuals behind each character that we must account for, even if this server’s setting is based on an anime.
-
sexual conduct, content, or discussion of any sort: There are minors on this server, therefore anything 18+ is prohibited.
-
excessive and in-depth details of violence and gore: Description of injuries resulting in Deku-levels of pain (such as shattered bones), excessive bleeding, mortal or permanent mutilation/wounds, or in-depth details of death are not appropriate for this server.

The topics below may be discussed on the server and in OC writing with the proper content warning and spoiler tags, including images, granted as long as there are no graphic details given. This also applies to OC backstories and to OC writing. If you are not sure what would constitute needing a CW, we highly encourage you to ask your fellow RPers or DM a moderator for confirmation.
-
abuse / bullying [references and mentions only]
-
blood [references and mentions only]
-
body horror, such as trypophobia triggers and minor gore [refrain from graphic detail]
-
deaths [references and mentions only]
-
injuries, such as broken bones or minor bleeding; scars afterwards require consent from RPers involved in the RP [no graphic details]
-
insects / arachnids [discussions and images should be tagged]
-
needles and other hospital procedures [no graphic details]
-
politics [tag anything related to current events, including jokes and memes]

Regarding Combat and Violence on the Server
Please keep in mind that while we do allow weapons on this server, whether as a support item or as part of a Quirk, the usage of such items and powers are heavily monitored and the Mun is expected to RP responsibly if their character is in possession of such a weapon or Quirk. Graphic actions, such as slashing, bludgeoning, and stabbing, that could lead to grievous or excessive injuries towards another character, such as limb amputations or organ damage or excessive bleeding, are prohibited. We would like to emphasize that should an RP involve injuries, all affected members of the RP must consent to the action, so please discuss posts as needed in the OOC channel.

At the end of the day, this is a PG-13 server, and all members are expected to remain accountable for their actions IC and OOC. Consequences may include but are not limited to revoking support items privileges and strikes.

Thank you for keeping the server a welcoming and safe space for everyone!

General Server Rules

-
Please format your name appropriately. When entering the server, have your name formatted to contain your preferred name in parentheses, followed by the names of your character(s)! (i.e. [Nickname] OC’s Name, ex: [Winnie] Poohbear)
-
It is your responsibility to stay updated with the server and any roleplays you partake in. Please check the `Info Office Category` for things like daily announcements, schedule updates, newscasts, etc. Additionally, don’t forget to check for mentions from your classes or fellow roleplayers!
-
Hate speech, slurs, and/or any forms of harassment (such as in-server, or in DMs pertaining to the server) will not be tolerated!
-
Because minors are present on this server, for safety and security reasons, private information such as full names, face reveals, and addresses should not be exchanged here. This means that if you want to post a picture here that has you and others in it or has information that would otherwise reveal who you are, for instance, we kindly ask for this information to be blocked out.
-
Refrain from Mini-modding! We understand that most people only have good intentions for the server, but the BUA leadership team has protocols for when a rule breach might happen. (ex. If you delete a message that wasn't yours for an otherwise good reason, then the Moderators no longer have access to that message for record keeping and therefore cannot go forward with the necessary processes.) Additionally, please leave the #q-and-a channel questions to the Moderators as well, unless you’re able to answer the question in full and have the appropriate sources to back it up!
-
Source any art that’s not made by you if possible, either by locating the artist’s social media and linking it back, or having their name on the artwork itself. This includes art commissions of your characters, fanart, artist-made reactionary images, etc. Also be sure the artwork itself complies with the server’s rules! If you’re unsure, ask a Moderator.
-
The server art channel, #oc-art, has a 10-minute wait period when posting. If one artist has just posted an artwork there, please do not immediately post another artwork before the allotted time has passed! Be courteous and wait till the previous image has a few comments. Do not leave weird or invasive comments on someone’s artwork! It can be very uncomfortable not only for the artist to read, but for others as well. Also unless asked, please do not spontaneously critique someone of their work.
-
We have several guidelines regarding advertisements on the server. Most will typically go into #advertisement.
-
Allowed:
-
Social media links: These may be posted to #social-media as part of your introduction or to #advertisement.
-
Commission Sheets: These can be posted in #advertisement
-
Non-RP Free-to-Join Servers: These can be posted in #general-chat or #advertisement with moderator approval.
-
-
Not Allowed:
-
Server Users' Stores (Esty, Storenvy, etc.): Direct links are not allowed on the server. However, they can still be linked on your social media profiles (Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, etc.) and referenced indirectly in messages!
-
Other RP Servers: Invite links cannot be posted on the server and will be deleted. You can propose hypotheticals and DM interested people links.
-
-
- While we know that the server is a great resource for OC help and development, we do not allow people off-server to ask members in the server to act as a middleman to ask for help on the server such as in #oc-help, especially if it pertains to a character that may be submitted to one of BUA’s applications in the future.
- If you voluntarily leave the server outside of an activity check, you are able to email the Mod Team via beyondua.official@gmail.com within 48 hours to rejoin the server. However, should this happen a second time, the Mod Team will remind you that if you rejoin and then choose to leave for a third time, you will not be allowed back into the server regardless of any time limit and will have to reapply via the appropriate OC application to re-enter the server.

Submission Guidelines

The BUA mod team strives to ensure that the OC evaluation process is as fair and objective as possible -- this applies to all OC Applications offered by the server: Main Students, Teacherless, Staff, World, and Event OCs. Our criteria for evaluating each category of OC can be found on our guidelines page here. If you have any questions or concerns about the evaluation process, please contact us through our site's contact form!

-
All server rules apply to our apps. We have provided a link to these rules on our official website for those outside of the server as well.
-
We will do our best to provide meaningful critique and reasons for rejection with each application. This is so that applicants can improve upon their OC, if needed, for the next time apps open. If you require a copy of your application, please feel free to DM a moderator at any time for them.
-
During an application cycle, you cannot apply the same OC towards two different responsibility role apps -- we strongly encourage you to choose the one that you think is most appropriate to your OC and the one you’d actually want to write for when accepted. However, you can apply different OCs for the positions available.
-
Should a mod have a strong bias, positive or negative, towards a certain roleplayer or submission, we strongly encourage them to abstain from the final vote. Examples of biases may include being an applicant to a responsibility role themselves, strong friendships with applicants, working with applicants to help them write parts of a character’s submission, consistent negative interactions or discomfort with an applicant, or anything else that might significantly affect one’s opinion outside of the character’s merits. We recognize that there are valid reasons for having such biases, so abstaining moderators can still provide input during the discussion phase of the process.
-
We have a maximum of three submissions (of the same OC, equipment, or advancement) for our various applications. If the submission has been declined three times (for example, declined from staff applications twice and from world applications once), you will have a 3-months cooldown before you are able to submit the OC again. The moderator team will inform you of the number of submissions you have so far and whether you’ve reached the submission limit.

Roleplay Rules

-
Everyone comes from different roleplaying backgrounds and levels of grammar/vocabulary, so there is no universal format we are looking for! All we ask of roleplayers is to write their posts in a legible fashion. Please avoid excessive use of bolds/italics/underlines as it can be difficult for some to read (like those with reading disabilities or are multilingual)! There is no limit to text you can post, but we highly encourage folks to aim for a paragraph at minimum in your replies! Give something for your roleplayers to react to and interact with.
-
Excessive public displays of affection, sexual conduct, and/or VIOLENCE in your posts is prohibited. This includes (but is not limited to) intense physical or mental violence towards one’s self or others. Do not mutilate your or someone else's OC, whether that be loss of a limb, mortally stabbing them, extreme blood loss, or any other grievous injury. IF DONE REASONABLY then broken bones, mild cuts, blood mentions and bruising are allowable so long as they are not excessive! Please refrain whatsoever from any sexual and/or sensual conduct between OCs, though. Most of them are children, after all!
When it comes to typing such things, please refrain from being too descriptive. While mentions of blood or bones breaking is allowed, we do not need to read about it in detail! A sentence or two is really all that is needed so as to avoid making too many people uncomfortable. This goes for body horror, such as quirk usage or injuries as well. (IE. Do not go to Deku lengths of bone breaking, do not try to mimic any behaviors that Toga exhibits in the anime, etc)
If you’re unsure, please ask a Moderator in advance!
Additionally, if a Moderator asks to stop a specific roleplay, it must be halted immediately. Situations in which this might happen are circumstantial and the BUA leadership team will handle each one as they appear.
-
Please communicate with your roleplaying partner(s)! BUA has a vast range of characters within it, so some might not mix well with others. IC conflict should be stated clearly in the OOC channels or in DMs so participants are aware. If you’re feeling uncomfortable with something occurring in the roleplay, please state so clearly or avoid roleplaying with the character in the future to avoid conflict! Halt the roleplay if your partner has concerns or is uncomfortable continuing— do not force the roleplay on them!
-
Avoid unwarranted actions against other characters! This includes moving OCs in an RP without consent and godmodding.
Godmodding is defined as your character having seemingly-overpowered abilities with no drawbacks or repercussions (i.e. a novice being untouchable in a fight or a student OC using their quirk far beyond their limits without any repercussions). Should we see events happening that fall under godmodding, the mod team will get into touch with the RPer to discuss what is happening.
Unwarranted actions include moving someone around during a roleplay without consent or writing actions that concretely affect another RPer without giving them a chance in-character to react. For instance, “Person A throws a car which lands on Person B” would be unacceptable; instead, “Person A picks up a car and gets ready to chuck in Person B’s direction” is the more acceptable writing.
Please note that this rule has exceptions, such as when responsibility roles (staff/world) need to move on in a time-limited RP and the action does not greatly affect the RPers within the scenario.
-
Do not metagame. Metagaming is using OOC information and using it IC when your character has no access to that knowledge to begin with. Your character should not know 100% about another character if they’re both meeting for the very first time!
-
Combat roleplays should be roleplayed based on your characters’ capabilities and not how superior they are! Winning should not be your only OOC goal as it’s meant to be fun for both parties after all~ Please discuss with your partner(s) prior to the roleplay on how it might go down. If a consensus cannot be reached or both parties are indecisive, use @Dice Maiden to decide, or contact Moderation if things are getting too heated!
-
Do not let your OOC feelings affect your IC decisions, and vice-versa. Being transparent can be difficult, but try to keep an open mind and a clear distinction between characters and their Muns! What a character does IC does not reflect the person OOC.
-
IC actions have IC consequences! If a character is found doing something they shouldn’t (i.e. minor/major quirk usage in public, committing a crime, etc.), they will be facing repercussions. Moderators are always watching and we will contact you about it…
-
Images are allowed in roleplays, but make sure they’re relevant to the roleplay itself! A character showing another character a specific image or posting one created for the roleplay is fine as they are relevant to the RP. General reaction images and gifs should remain in the OOC channel.
-
Private DM RPs are up to the discretion of the muns. Backstory and other information that arise from these RPs can be canon for your OCs' BUA canon as long as they follow server rules. If the RP involves server OCs within the setting's timeline, we do prefer that to be roleplayed out on the server, but again, this is up to the muns/roleplayers in general!
-
@/Staff and @/Mods have access to all of the class OOC channels. It may be tempting to pop into class OOCs that your student OCs (if you have one) do not belong to, but to reduce potential confusion, we ask that those with the mentioned roles stay out of other OOC channels during active homeroom periods.
If you wish to discuss something that may be in other OOC channels that might involve your characters, it is okay to bring the discussion out to #oc-talk-1 or #oc-talk-2.

Activity Rules

-
BUA performs an activity check once every 3 months! Whether you’ve been here since Day 1 or just entered the server, you are expected to answer the form. Please check pings in #announcements to locate the form! Failure to respond to the form will result in you getting kicked from the server, but you may reapply at a later date to get back in.
-
If you’re going to be inactive for a certain period of time (i.e. a week or a month), please post a notice on the #hiatus-board channel! Once your hiatus is over, delete the post to keep the board clean and updated; the format can be found in the pinned message. If your hiatus happens to be longer than 3 months, please break it up into smaller parts or you may risk getting kicked from the server for being away too long!
-
If a roleplayer has promised to participate in a class/other deadlined roleplay and are integral to its completion but has gone missing for a long time and are not responding to messages, participants are allowed to sideline the character out of the roleplay! This allows roleplays to continue onward instead of halting the pacing entirely for one person.
-
In case you wish to leave the server, we’d love to get a notice! If something is wrong that we can help with, we’ll gladly offer our services to resolve that issue. If not, that’s perfectly fine; you can leave with no questions asked! Our doors are always open whenever you want to come back.

Disciplinary Measures

-
Warnings and Strikes may be issued out at the discretion of the Moderation Team. 3 Warnings equates to 1 Strike, and 3 Strikes means a perma-ban from the server. Warnings can be appealed, but Strikes cannot and are automatic if a rule is broken. Keep in mind, both Warnings and Strikes expire after 6 months!
-
People waiting for assessment for disciplinary actions will be given the @Under Review role which restricts permissions on the server. @Auttaja will automatically give people this role for 5 minutes when muted for saying banned words. If you wish to know what they are to avoid saying these words in the future, please contact a Moderator for the list!
-
When muted by @Auttaja, a Moderator will contact you shortly after to ask you for context to resolve the issue. Depending on if it's your first time getting muted, you will receive a Reminder to be more cautious. If you repeat the same issue over and over again, reminders will escalate into Warnings or even Strikes depending on severity. So don’t push your luck!
-
Everything that occurs in our server, or is related to our server in some way, falls under our jurisdiction. In some circumstances, this may also include DM’s/private discussions regarding a roleplay or situation in-server, and the Moderation team will handle each situation accordingly. However, communicating with your fellow roleplay partners and groups is ultimately your own responsibility, and ideally the Moderation team will not have to get involved at any point.
Roleplayer-to-Mod private chats will remain private and will not be shared with anyone else outside of the Moderator team. We will respect your request for anonymity.

Moderator Rules

-
By accepting the Moderator role, you automatically agree to be responsible and active in your duties to be unbiased in maintaining the server and moderating its members. Anything discussed in Mod-Chat is to not be discussed anywhere else and not with anyone else that isn’t a Moderator also. Freely sharing information from the private Mod-Chat in the server or in DMs is strictly forbidden.
-
This is not a permanent role. Unless stated otherwise, BUA’s rules still apply in the Mod-Chat and if a Moderator is found breaking rules repeatedly, evidence of favoritism to a member(s), or abusing their power— they will be trialed, face repercussions, or even be stripped of their Mod role as a result. Moderators make up the leadership team of BeyondUA, and are expected to be role-models for the rest of the server, as the well-being of the server and server members now rely on you.
If a Moderator feels they are not up to par with their duties or are overwhelmed by real-life stresses, they are allowed to take hiatuses or step down without consequences! Mod Applications will open shortly soon after. Please keep communication open with the rest of the Mod team if you find yourself struggling in your duties, we understand that this is a voluntary role and we don’t want it to ruin your own experience in this server.
-
Server and disciplinary decisions are done via majority vote! However, not every Moderator can be present when such a thing occurs, so it’s not required for every single Mod to be there for every single decision that needs a quick or minor vote.
-
If a roleplayer wishes to remain anonymous when contacting the Mod Team about an issue, they may gladly do so without questions! The Mod contacted must adhere to the person’s wishes, but issues submitted cannot be 100% anonymous.
-
Because the Mod-Chat is only visible to those with the role, we do not allow gossiping or complaining about server members in the channel.
-
Moderators are unable to offer help in #oc-help or via DMs if it is for an OC/support equipment/quirk advancement that may be submitted to one of our applications in the future. This is because this may be construed as favoritism or an unfair advantage.
-
When contacting a mod privately such as for friendly conversation, please refrain from venting about situations in the BUA server, which can bias a moderator's judgement in a situation if it is handled officially. If you wish to vent, we will ask several boundary-establishing statements at the beginning to ensure that this bias doesn’t happen, such as:
`Did you want to make this an official claim, and if so, do you wish to do so anonymously? If not at this moment, please know that you can contact the moderation team at any time should the situation get worse. We will do our utmost to address these concerns as a team!`
In the event that someone wants to open a formal inquiry/dispute further down the line, Moderators should disclose their potential biases and prior involvement regarding the discussions related to the inquiry/dispute in order to ensure that our decisions remain as fair as possible.
-
Moderators are not required to assist or micro-manage classrooms unless given explicit permission from the Teacher of the class, or when moderation is needed! Please avoid posting messages for fun in the channels. Teachers and faculty are responsibility roles and are expected to uphold the server rules in their classrooms and designated spaces.

Contacting a Moderator

-
You may message a Moderator whenever, but for fastest results please contact one that is online! (Please see #meet-the-mod for details on each Moderator’s online status.) You can also @Mod in your post if it’s something urgent that needs our immediate attention. Please only do this if it's an emergency and not when it’s something minor! We go into immediate “ALL HANDS ON DECK” mode and expect the worst when the whole team is @ed on server, so please use it in extreme cases only.
-
If you or friends outside of BUA have questions, you can reach the Mod Team via asking questions in #q-and-a, messaging us directly, or sending your inquiries to our email at beyondua.official@gmail.com instead. We will do our best to answer them in a timely manner, and would like to emphasize that the fastest way to reach us is through our DMs.
-
Have a fun idea for the server you wish to share, such as new areas, possible events, class lessons and more? Feel free to post them in our #suggestion-box or send us a DM/Email! We’d love to hear them!

Thank you for reading our rules!
